Cowboys Beat Eagles 38-21 on Monday Night as Philadelphia Lose a Fifth Straight Game

Dak Prescott throwing a pass for the Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday Night Football, running for 204 yards and pulling away in the second half to end a two-game losing run of their own while extending Philadelphia’s to five.

Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes and Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards as Dallas improved to 3-4. The Eagles, who began the season as one of the league’s form teams, are 2-5.

Six Lead Changes Before Dallas Pulled Clear

The game was genuinely competitive for three quarters and changed hands six times. Dallas opened with a field goal, Saquon Barkley answered with an eight-yard touchdown run to put Philadelphia 7-3 up, and the lead continued to move back and forth from there.

Prescott found CeeDee Lamb from nine yards and George Pickens from 21 to send Dallas in 20-14 ahead at the interval. Tanner McKee responded in the third quarter with a four-yard touchdown pass to rookie Makai Lemon that put the Eagles back in front at 21-20.

The decisive sequence came with 90 seconds left in that quarter. Lamb caught a 16-yard touchdown, his second of the night, and Prescott ran in the two-point conversion to make it 28-21. Philadelphia did not score again.

Brandon Aubrey kicked field goals from 55, 27 and 24 yards, and Williams finished the scoring with a two-yard run.

Dallas Commit to the Run and Philadelphia Cannot Stop It

The headline statistic was the ground game. Dallas carried 38 times for 204 yards against 27 pass attempts, a deliberate reversal after Brian Schottenheimer was criticised for abandoning the run in the second half the previous week.

Williams carried it. His 25 attempts produced 155 yards and a touchdown, and he became the first Dallas back to rush for 150 yards in a game since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018. Philadelphia did not record a single tackle for loss all night, which is as clear an indictment of a front seven as the yardage total itself.

Prescott’s night was efficient rather than voluminous, 15 of 27 for 212 yards and the three scores. Lamb caught five passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, Pickens four for 57 and one.

An Eagles Season Unravelling Without Its Quarterback

Philadelphia played without Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks. Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the season after blood clots were discovered in his lungs, which leaves McKee, making a second consecutive start, to carry an offence already missing its leading receiver.

McKee was competent without being able to change the game, completing 23 of 35 for 211 yards with a touchdown and an interception. DeMarvion Overshown picked him off late in the fourth quarter to remove any lingering doubt.

The injury situation deteriorated as the night went on. Barkley returned from a hamstring problem and gained 62 yards on seven carries with the early touchdown, plus two catches for nine yards, before leaving with a back injury. Dameon Pierce, who had 14 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown, left in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed problem. Britain Covey suffered a knee injury in the first quarter.

Lemon was the one bright spot, catching seven passes for 67 yards and the touchdown.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame at half-time, during a game in which his team lost for the fifth time in succession.

Where Both Teams Stand

Dallas remain below .500 but have halted a slide and found something approaching an identity on offence, built around a running game that produced its most convincing performance of the season.

Philadelphia’s problems are structural rather than tactical. Without Hurts for the rest of the year and with Barkley and Pierce both leaving this game injured, the depth that carried the roster earlier in the season is being tested in every position group at once.

Dallas host Arizona on Sunday. Philadelphia travel to Washington for a Sunday night game, with a quarter of the season gone and the margin for recovery narrowing.
