Robinson Stars as England Seal Test Series Against Pakistan at Lord's

England have secured their first Test series victory in almost two years, beating Pakistan by 194 runs at Lord's to take an unassailable 2-0 lead with one match remaining.

Ollie Robinson was again the central figure, finishing with match figures of 8 for 35 from 27 overs and taking the player of the match award for the second Test in succession. The win was completed with a day to spare.

The Match

England were bowled out for 290 in their first innings, with Jamie Smith making 61 and Jordan Cox 55. Mohammad Abbas took four wickets.

Pakistan's reply lasted barely 37 overs. They were dismissed for 110, with Robinson taking 4 for 11 and Jofra Archer 3 for 26. Azan Awais top-scored with 46.

England added 208 in their second innings, Dan Lawrence making 54, as Abbas claimed five wickets to earn a place on the Lord's honours board.

Set 389 to win, Pakistan collapsed to 14 for 3 as Robinson and Archer removed Awais, Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam inside the opening overs.

Saud Shakeel offered the only sustained resistance. He reached a half-century from 54 balls and shared a stand of 97 for the fourth wicket with Shan Masood either side of a 40-minute rain delay. Robinson returned to break the partnership by dismissing Masood, and Josh Tongue then worked through the lower order, finishing with 3 for 46. Shakeel was eventually dismissed for 97 by Tongue, three short of a century, with Pakistan all out for 194.

Robinson and Archer Set the Tone

The partnership between Robinson and Archer has been the defining feature of the series. Robinson has now taken 16 wickets across the two Tests at an average of a little over seven, and has claimed the player of the match award in both.

Archer finished with five wickets across the two innings at Lord's, and the pair have repeatedly removed Pakistan's top order cheaply. Pakistan have not passed 200 in any of the four innings they have batted in the series.

There was a brief period after lunch on the final day when England's control slipped, Gus Atkinson conceding 24 runs in four overs before being replaced. Robinson's return ended the resistance.

A First Series Win Since 2024

The result ends a long wait for England, whose previous Test series victory came in New Zealand in late 2024.

It follows an equally comfortable win in the opening Test at Headingley, where England posted 409 and bowled Pakistan out for 171 and 135 to win by an innings and 103 runs inside three days. Robinson took the player of the match award in that game as well.

England have taken 12 World Test Championship points from each match, with Pakistan yet to register any from the series.

Turmoil in the Pakistan Camp

The defeats have triggered upheaval within Pakistan cricket. The Pakistan Cricket Board removed seven players from the Test squad following the loss at Lord's.

Misbah-ul-Haq resigned as a national selector a day after those changes were announced, a decision that came amid criticism of how the board has handled the squad during the tour.

Mohammad Abbas, who has been among the few Pakistan players to enhance his reputation on the tour, acknowledged after the Lord's defeat that the run of results had left the group concerned.

The third and final Test begins at Edgbaston on 9 September.
