Ferran Torres Set to Join PSG From Barcelona in €50M Deal
Barcelona forward Ferran Torres is set to join Paris Saint-Germain after the two clubs reached an agreement in principle worth around €50 million, with the transfer expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Deal Reached After Weeks of Talks
According to ESPN, Barcelona had rejected an opening offer of €40 million before the two clubs settled on a fee close to €50 million. Personal terms between Torres and PSG were agreed by August 12, and the 26-year-old is due to travel to Paris to complete a medical before signing. Barcelona reportedly allowed Torres to skip training sessions in the final stages of the process to help the move along.
Torres arrives at PSG on the back of a career-defining moment, having scored the winning goal for Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina. The move will reunite him with Luis Enrique, who managed Torres during his time as Spain's head coach before taking charge of PSG.
A Return on Barcelona's Investment
Barcelona originally signed Torres from Manchester City in December 2021 for a reported €55 million. With one year left on his contract and the player having asked to leave, the club opted to sanction a sale rather than risk losing him for less value next summer.
Torres made more than 200 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions, scoring 65 goals and contributing 23 assists while winning three league titles with the club. Last season he scored 16 goals in La Liga despite starting just 23 games, playing a rotational role behind Barcelona's more established forwards.
Fourth Summer Signing for PSG
The move makes Torres PSG's fourth addition of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Alessandro Longoni, Lucas Digne and Maghnes Akliouche. Reports on the length of his new contract have varied, with some outlets indicating a deal running until 2032.
PSG enter the new season as reigning European champions after a dominant campaign, and opened their 2026-27 competitive fixtures with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg. Adding Torres gives Luis Enrique further attacking depth and is expected to help manage the workload of players such as Ousmane Dembele across a long domestic and European season.
For Barcelona, the departure leaves the club needing to assess its attacking options for the remainder of the window, which closes on August 31. Torres was considered a versatile squad option capable of playing across the front line, and his exit follows a pattern this summer of Barcelona balancing incoming and outgoing transfers to manage the club's finances.
Neither club has yet confirmed the transfer officially, with formalities including Torres' medical still to be completed. Barring a late setback, however, the move is expected to be announced within days, closing the book on one of the more closely tracked transfer sagas of the European summer.
